This is the first Latin translation of the Racovian Catechism, of Socinian, Polish Brethren interest. Thomas Jefferson referred to the text of the Catechism as one of the sources of the US Constitution and the UNESCO has listed it as one of the most important works in the history of mankind. The title was first published in the city of Rakow. The city with 15.000 inhabitants was razed in the course of the Catholic counter-reformation in Poland. In 1608 a German translation appeared. A year later this Latin translation, dedicated to King James 1, was published with a ficticious imprint. Because of the non-trinitarian stance of the catechism, the English Parliament voted in 1614 and again in 1652 to seize and burn all copies circulating.
