The text is in pencil, 31 lines per page, the MS is well readable, it goes into great detail and has well executed pencil engineering drawings of the machinery. This item was found in California, but it uses the spelling "centre". Paper watermark: Kelly & Walsh Extra Fine (=Shanghai). The purpose of the text is not clear, it could be a form of industrial espionage, or the MS for a planned publication, or an in-house current awareness exercise. There is no name. The premises where it was found in Los Angeles were associated with the name "Berg". A second volume is entitled "Index of Report Books" (thumb indexed, watermark "Exchequer Ledger") with contains entries like "received from Matsumuras" (under Sodium Carbonate or Soda Ash) or "Blasting Gelatine (Iwakana Analysis)", "Sulphur Lot from Mitoni B K", "Mitsui Sulphur, Sulphuric Acid from Tokyo" dated between 1908 and 1910.
