Description: 7 large volumes, brown cloth with elaborate gilt lettering & decoration to spine and intriguingly decorated covers depicting important events and innovations of the age (photography, prepaid postage, abolition of slavery, telegraph), spines with "Waterloo" device, all edges gilt, beveled boards, steel engravings with tissue guards bound a the beginning, text printed in two columns, all bindings tight, all inner hinges intact (free front endpaper to Div 1 in missing and a prospectus is present), fresh and bright set. Prospectus confirms that the set is to comprise of 7 volumes. Sources refer to a Div 8 paginating pp 361-480 & i-cxxviii that is not included here, but note that pagination in our set is does not coordinate well with volume count, such that our Div 6 contains 249 - 368 + 120, and Div 7 paginates 121 - 360 with a note at the finale page: "End of Volume 4".
