Description: eight very large volumes bound in plain black cloth with period title label to spine, 1950ies (?) binding strong in black buckram, in the back are bound the brown card covers of the original "livaisons", some with a pencil name (Henry Bradshaw, Kings College), also occasional corrections and "cartons" (eg for the page containing "Bacon") when a single page was replaced late in the production process. There is a library blindstamp to initial pages and a discard stamp in red ink to back endpaper. The volumes have roughcut edges, the binding is form and strong, an occasional title page may have a crease, this is a very functional and very original first edition of a bibliographical milestone
